Brian McLeod

Photo 18Hello. My name is Brian McLeod, and I lead the River and Bridge group. Rather than attempt a third-party pseudo-biography, I will relate a few relevant items from the first person.

I got seriously interested in meditation and the Path of the Buddha’s teachings after a chance encounter with a Tibetan teacher in 1976. The Venerable Kyabje Namgyal Rinpoche accepted me as a student in 1978. I studied and worked at the Dharma Centre of Canada full time from 1984 to 1989, attending the first three-year round of what was called the Kinmount Academy. I have been teaching dharma formally and leading retreats in Canada and Germany since 1999.

After leaving the Dharma Centre I lived in the Eastern Arctic for seventeen years. (This, despite the fact that I have a degree in Forestry from UBC.) While living in the arctic and in subsequent work I have been actively involved in questions of livelihood and business. I have worked in management positions with a number of different Inuit organizations, acting as President of an Inuit-owned development corporation, and CEO of a not-for-profit organization (NPO) focusing on employment, training, and business start-ups.

I now live in Winnipeg with my wife and two children. Since 2007 I have been working with a group of people in Winnipeg, currently called something like The Thursday Night Meditation Group, or possibly the Winnipeg Study and Meditation Group. I am hoping the nature of our study together will become evident to visitors to this blog/website as it evolves.
